We have another weekend of spooky boo goodness with our haunted house designed and scripted by the students of Unioto Drama Club with direction from Faculty Advisor, Frank Elliott. I will have to admit there were a few times I was scared!! Give it a try and support our drama club and choir program and students. Congratulations to Ella Smith and Sophie Hanes for winning the “Healthy Me, Drug Free” poster contest. Great job students and enjoy your $250 gift card for winning! One more shout out to our band students. Really enjoyed the performance last Friday night. Excellent job students! Last Blast concert is Thursday, November 4 at 7pm. Would also like to mention I really really enjoy the fried bologna sandwiches our band boosters make at football games this year. It is ok to eat fried bologna if you are supporting our band program! Yummy! Congratulations to our boys varsity cross country team for qualifying for regionals once again with another District title last weekend at Rio Grande. I believe this is 17 out of the last 19 years our boys have qualified!! Great job student-athletes and coaches. Living up to the state ranking. Fantastic! Congratulations to our girls varsity cross country team for qualifying for regionals tomorrow as well. Both teams compete tomorrow in the regionals at Pickerington North with girls running at noon and boys at 1pm! Congratulations to our boys varsity soccer team on their advancement in the tourney winning a District championship last night against top seed Marietta! Back to back District champions!! Regional game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 3. Location and time to be announced. Great job!!! Now what?? Congratulations to the Middle school Cross Country team who competed in the OHSAA State Middle School Meet last weekend. The boys are STATE RUNNERS-UP with Jayden Beverly winning the individual state championship, Gideon Tennant joining him in the top 10 in 8th place, and Jaxon Zickafoose also earning medalist honors in 15th. Other team members who scored are: Zavier Wallace 34th , Ethan Purtee 38th Jaden Hines 41st and Caleb Caplinger in 63rd, There were 186 in the race. The girls were led by Cameron Walker in 4th place. Go Tanks!! There’s a new scare in the air at Unioto this year. The Unioto Drama Club presents a new ghostly experience filled with spooky boo goodness. The event will open for only two weekends, October 22-23 and 29-30 from 7pm to Midnight. The haunted house was designed and scripted by the students of Unioto Drama Club with direction from Faculty Advisor, Frank Elliott. Prior to becoming a teacher, Elliott designed and built haunted house props and sets for clients nationwide as a part of his own production company. “We have a lot in store for this year’s Spooky Boo Weekends.” Said Elliott. Featured this year will be “Murdock’s Manor”, a creepy house haunted by the spirit of the late Lady Murdock and some of her less fortunate friends. Other attractions will include an escape room, carnival style games, refreshments and more. Proceeds will support future projects for the Unioto Drama Club and Choirs. Please plan to come out and support these terrific kids and prepare for some fright filled fun and fantastically fearful festivities! A reminder we will be participating in a full scale mock evacuation drill tomorrow at approximately 1:00pm. We are anticipating the drill to last approximately an hour. We will be shutting down Moundsville Rd during the evacuation drill. I wanted to share something I read a couple of weeks ago and it keeps coming to my mind. It is titled 8 Sentences I wish I read sooner… 1. These hard times, this pain, these lessons - one day they will be your strength, your awareness, your blessings. 2. Stop expecting honesty from people who lie to themselves. 3. You will never look good trying to make someone look bad. 4. Save your explanations for those that are determined to understand you - give your silence to those that are determined to misunderstand you. 5. Reminder to families of third grade students: Ohio's State Tests in English Language Arts will be tomorrow (10/20) and Thursday (10/21). Please make sure your child gets a good night's rest, eats breakfast, and is at school on time. Students, do your best on the test! We believe in you!

All ticket prices are $5 with exception of $3 dollars for Senior Citizens. If your child rides a school bus and it is running late, please check our district website under the live feed and any of our Facebook pages as we will not always have the ability to make an all-call. Congratulations to our boys and girls soccer teams for being undefeated in SVC play and multiple gold balls over the years...too many to even count (4 years in a row for the girls)!! I know as excited as many may be for their accomplishments our teams are not even remotely satisfied and desire greater challenges ahead and are focused on a strong, strong tournament season. Great job coaches and players! Congratulations to our boys cross country team for once again dominating our home cross country invitational that hosted over 20 teams from all over. Boys finished 1st!! Girls finished 3rd and congratulations to our MS boys with a 1st place finish! Friday, October 22 our district will be participating in a mock full scale district evacuation drill which will include the local law enforcement and a brief closure of Moundsville Rd during the drill. The drill takes approximately an hour to complete. No school for students on Monday, October 18. Staff will be participating in professional development. Enjoy the extended weekend! I think these extended weekends are just as disappointing to me as it is to our students! Relax students Tuesday will be here before you know it! Try to make the best of your extra day off from school but it is not a day off from learning. Remember, make each and every day count! As challenging as it may be to miss a Monday of school, know that you should always look for the good in all of your circumstances. They say things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out. Take a walk of gratitude on Monday. When you get up in the morning or in the afternoon just take a walk and think about anything and everything you have to be grateful for. Trust me it will brighten your day and if not your entire day at least a good part of your day. I read the other day that there is some real utility in gratitude. It’s also a good protection against the dangers of victimhood and resentment. I will say again...there is some real utility in gratitude. With all the ugliness that seems to make it to the forefront of our media outlets, social media, and even some of our conversations it is important to stay focused being the best you can be and thankful for all of the wonderful blessings provided to us. It’s easy to get caught up in the negative, your problems, lack of fairness, and all the terrible circumstances that beset you. Remind yourself, when it is the toughest for you, that is when you need to be the toughest. You are way stronger than you think and there is way more to you than you may realize. Keep your chin up and face the challenges before you voluntarily with the confidence you can do it and if you happen to fail it is only your step closer to finding your best you. 3 days til Monday!!
