All call for 5:00 pm today! We have all been super excited for our fall season and the success our teams have experienced and will experience tomorrow as our CC team is competing at the state level. We have so many students involved in our extracurricular events and activities working hard, committing their time and energy, sacrificing for themselves and others, growing and learning, facing challenges, and hopefully, enjoying being on a team and representing our school district in a positive manner. We also have many many other students fighting the fight every day. Competing to be better. Serving on school groups, leading in the classrooms, super focused on their academics, and preparing themselves for their future. We also have many struggling to stay afloat, to stay positive, experiencing difficulty after difficulty, challenges and battles we can only imagine. They push through to face another day and in some cases with very little hope, support, resources, and encouragement. They lose everyday but show up again and again demonstrating such resilience and tenacity. So proud of our kids. This message is to all of our students and anyone else fighting the fight to get to the next minute, next hour, next day or week or year. It is a message for anyone competing with life. I walked through the gym the other day after school and I saw some of our lady student athletes during a practice focused, intense, and just getting after it. It was a real source of inspiration. These same athletes a week earlier were devastated from a tough tough tourney loss, falling to their knees crying and weeping from defeat. A loss. When you invest your heart, soul, mind, and body for something and you fail, lose, or are defeated, the feeling can be simply overwhelming and for some - too much. Just too much. Some are not equipped to deal with loss. Some quit. Many quit. Some will get up, brush themselves off, and go again. Knowing they will be defeated. Knowing they will experience adversity and heartache all this for the small chance to taste real victory or to see just what they are made of. I can assure you with 100% accuracy life experiences will force you to recall something you learned from a loss, a pain, or a hurt. It will happen and it will happen sooner than later and more often than you think. So be thankful to have the opportunity losing brings to you. Experiencing loss personally and watching our staff, coaches, players, students and parents take losses in games, performances, situations, make mistakes, or fail actually encourages me. There is a part of me that is excited and genuinely thankful for the losses. I will get back to this in a second. As superintendent, I hear mostly negative from people. Comes with the territory. Constantly exposed and experience negativity. Every single day. I also hear negativity at games and events directed towards officials, coaches, players, our players and coaches. Quite often I will read social media posts that are very negative about our teams, individual players, coaches, programs, staff, and our school. My challenge to us all, me included, is to be mindful that our children are watching and learning from us. My daughter shared a quote with me a couple of weeks ago she had heard in church. It has been living in my mind recently, and I hope takes up residence because I do not want to forget it. “Our children cannot remember what they have not received, heard, or learned. We all play a part in the next generation.” Wow. This isn’t me wagging my finger like I know best; rather simply sharing a perspective to consider. Our events have families there with children. Our children. Even more are on social media reading the posts and comments. Taking in every bit of it. Receiving. Hearing. Learning. The little eyes are watching us. Be mindful. Don’t mind the criticism and negativity just be mindful on how it is presented and shared. Back to the losses and being thankful for them. Nobody likes to lose. That statement is not actually true. The great ones and those wanting to be great recognize and value losses. They understand that that is the fight. Each day. Its life. You have to fight through. Losses are the only pathway to winning. You have to lose and lose consistently to ever reach the finish line. You can’t get there any other way. You should want to be defeated and defeated decisively, by successfully greater things. And when you lose and you will lose - you must do it the right way. Everyone takes defeats in life but not everyone takes it the right way. Losing the right way is also a responsibility to all the people - your parents, friends, school, teammates, coaches that believe in you. So lose and lose the right way. You will be stronger, wiser, and as most prepared to fight your next fight. Be thankful for the test to find out exactly what you are made and capable of. Even the worst of losses can be a positive. I had a conversation this week with a parent that shared a story of a patient that had struggled terribly with an illness and was losing hope but was able to recover and is doing well. She shared how the person realized in the toughest most worse situations there can be the most beautiful of blessings. A friend of mine shared with me that a winner is just a loser who tried one more time! Be that loser that keeps trying and see what happens!! Have a great weekend and remember to carry your own weather, hard work works, be thankful for your losses and 3 days til Monday!! Go Tanks!

All call for 4:00 pm today! Our Vision: By inspiring greatness, all students will realize their worth and potential. Our Mission: At Union-Scioto School District, students will learn, lead and make a difference. Our Motto: Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders. There’s something in the air this week! It is time for Spooky Boo at “The U”! That’s right, the Drama Club will host their second annual “Murdock’s Manor of Malice” haunted house this Friday and Saturday, October 28th and 29th from 6:00 - 10:30 PM and tickets to walk through are only $5.00 per person! Our preschoolers gave our haunted house a run for their money in front of a packed house of guests with their exceptional performance last night in their Halloween program! Great job preschoolers and thank you preschool staff for organizing the program. Congratulations to our varsity football team on an outstanding season with a 9-1 record. One of the better records in many many years. Actually, we can go clear back to 1981 as the last time we had 9-1 record!! New season starts tonight! Excited for our football team's playoff game tonight vs last year’s state champion Clinton Massie. Gametime is 7pm here at the U!! Our high school students that are members of the Drug Free Clubs of America had the opportunity to participate in the downtown rally today. We had over 200 students participate. Very proud of our students for pledging to remove or keep drugs out of their bodies and lives! There is nothing good in disrespecting your body by taking drugs. It will not lead to anything positive. It won’t be good for you, your family, your friends, your community, anyone! You matter and what you do matters. Great job Drug Free Clubs of America students and any student that is leading a disciplined life making great decisions! Have a great weekend and remember to carry your own weather, hard work works, be grateful and 3 days til Monday!! Go Tanks!

So, get your scare on and come out for a spooky good time…if you dare! Mwah ha ha ha ha ha!!! High School Auditeria! Congratulations to the boys cross country team for finishing as District Champions for the 18th time in the last 20 years. All district individuals were: Seth Ogan, Turner Markko, Ashton Beverly, Rowen Lloyd, Zack Wallace and Eli Peck. This means our entire scoring varsity team and our sixth man also qualified to regionals as individuals. The girls team also competed at Rio and finished as District runners-up! Cameron Walker earned District Runner-of-the-Year honors and Briana Nelson earned all-district honors. Both teams advance to regional meet which will be held at Pickerington North this Saturday. The Middle school boys finished their season as state runners up this weekend at Fortress Obetz. Jayden Lewis finished 6th in state followed by Liam Lynch 16th. Ethan Purtee 18th Rudy Leadingham 38th Reed Bauer 63rd Zavier Wallace 64th Logan Lovely 79th and Henry Vallette 104th. The middle school girls were represented by Adeline Lloyd who finished 15th Congratulations to our JV football team on an undefeated season in the league! Great job and our future is bright!! Congratulations to our volleyball team for knocking of the #1 seed to advance to the district championship this Saturday vs New Lexington at Southeastern High School at 11am! Nice job ladies and coaches. Congratulations to our girls soccer team for winning at ZT and advancing to the district championship as well. Gametime is Thursday at 6:00pm. Unbelievable season and past seasons. Impressive job players and coaches! Our boys soccer team with a win tonight vs Galia Academy at Logan HS which starts at 8pm will advance to the district championship as well on this Saturday. Lastly, compliments to our band students and band coaches. It is always a pleasure to listen and watch our band students perform at such an impressive level every single week. Every single week. So proud of our band students and band program. Great job! I would also compliment the band boosters on their incredibly tasty fried bologna sandwiches cooked by some master level chefs for sure. Fried bologna on one side of the field and crazy good fish sandwiches on the other. Great job to our booster groups for all the support you provide to our programs and students. It is really appreciated. Thank you! Excited and impressed, but not surprised, all of our teams are having such successful seasons. It doesn’t happen on accident. Intentional focused effort and work will lead to positive results. Incredibly rewarding to invest your energy, hard work, and commitment towards a goal and striving to accomplish it. Remember, these championships, undefeated seasons, making the playoffs, winning tourney games, getting ribbons and trophies all come from hard work. They would mean very little if they were easily attained. Always go the extra mile because it is never crowded. Very few teams and individuals elevate to the level of a championship. The reason it isn’t crowded when you go the extra mile is because so few individuals or teams actually go the extra mile. Actually, put in the extra work. There is nobody there a mile farther down the road or up the hill. It is just too much for some. I would argue the great teams and individual don’t view it as “extra”. It is simply what they do. They know it takes everything and then some just to scratch the surface of greatness. My challenge to you is to understand the work will lead to good results. It is the work, the process, the day to day grind, the pain, the pushing through even when you don’t feel like it, minimizing your excuses, and voluntarily accepting responsibility is your championship your extra mile. It is your trophy. Welcome all of it and know that going the extra mile is the gateway to you finding your best you. Go Tanks!

Ashtyn Miller was named SVC Player of the Year and Jeremy Clark was named Coach of the Year. In volleyball, Sophie Coleman and Ella Cutright earned all SVC honors. Congratulations! I read the following from Brian Kight and wanted to share: You don't have to maximize your potential. You don't have to strive and strain in pursuit of personal excellence. You may not be interested in that work or that life. It is within your right to accept average from yourself, but choices have consequences. Accepting average and not pursuing excellence cuts you off from certain things. It also prevents others from experiencing and benefitting from who you could be but choose not to be. The best version of you has a profoundly different impact in the world than the average version of you. The decision to pursue excellence isn't just about you. It's about anyone who experiences you, relies on you, and believes in you. Answer the call. Do the work. I would add that adding discipline into your life and decisions can be terribly difficult and there is always an element of discomfort and in large part is why people avoid it. It is just easier to be less than yourself and to avoid discipline in your actions and decisions. Temporarily and in the moment it might be. However, it is not a mode for success or improvement long term. I haven’t met too many people, if any, that work hard, do the right things, are disciplined, focused, have follow through, do their best, etc. that are not successful. Not saying there may be a few exceptions, but generally speaking the universe is reasonably balanced and fair. So do the work and good things will happen for you! A reminder no school for students or staff tomorrow, Friday, October 21.. Enjoy the extended weekend!! Carry your own weather!! Hard work works! Go Tanks!
