Intervention & Special Education Studies

Union-Scioto Local School District provides services to students ages 3-22 identified as having a disability under the Individuals with Disability Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA). Disability conditions include: autism, cognitive disability, multiple disability, specific learning disability, other health impairment minor, other health impairment major, orthopedic disability, emotional disability, hearing impairment, vision impairment, traumatic brain injury and speech/language disability. Related services include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech/language therapy.

Unioto promotes a full inclusion policy where most of the child's educational needs are met in the general educational classroom with support from an intervention specialist. Students may receive some instructional and related services outside the general education classroom depending on need.

Programs serving children with learning difficulties and speech/language needs are available in all buildings. Children with multiple disabilities, severe cognitive disabilities, or emotional/behavior needs are served in specialized programs in designated buildings which may require transportation outside of the district. All eligible children receive specialized instruction to meet their unique needs, in accordance with state and federal requirements.
